Corfe Castle
Activity Details
Corfe Castle is one of the most dramatic ruined castles in England. The leaning towers and large blocks of fallen stone, give the misleading impression that the castle is crumbling. The castle was destroyed deliberately 360 years ago during the English Civil War. The remains that we see today are the result of the work of Parliamentarian engineers and not the ravages of time. The Castle has been here for over 1000 years of turbulent history - see what you can discover during your visit today.Guided tours are often available throughout the main season at no extra charge.
The grounds and the surrounding hills are ideal places for an informal picnic. Do a children's trail and race round the castle to find things, count the arrow loops, imagine living here hundreds of years ago, how would you have stormed the castle?
Our 18th Century tea room and garden is situated at the entrance to the castle, just off the village square. It offers a large selection of delicious home cooked food including light lunches, home made cakes and Dorset cream teas.
Our shop is one of the biggest and best National Trust shops in the country. It is situated in the village square and open daily from 10am.
The castle, by its very nature is a steeply sloping site with rough, uneven paths. Access only to the outer bailey for wheelchair users. Please take care when exploring the castle, sensible footwear is recommended. Baby back carriers available to loan at Castle gate, pushchairs can be left here when castle fate manned.
